Stranger on the Mirror (One Shot/ Original)

STRANGER IN THE MIRROR

She woke up to the sound of birds singing outside her window. It used to be that those sounds alone are enough to complete her day. But today is not one of those days. Instead of getting up she just changed positions and attempted to go back to sleep. She could hear her parents preparing breakfast; it’s still too early for her to get up she half convinced herself. She knows she still has enough time to squeeze in another hour of sleep before she needs to get up from bed and start her day. But that extra hour of much needed sleep was denied her. It just wouldn’t come back to her. Grumbling she stood up and upon peeking from her bedroom door at the clock in their living room her thoughts were confirmed when she saw that it was only 7 AM, she needs to start getting ready to go to work by 8 which is a good hour away. On her way to bed she saw her reflection on the mirror and did not like what she saw.

Dark circles under the eyes, pimple scarred skin, tired and soulless eyes, and a smile that looks so phony it pains her to even look at it. No matter how hard she tried she can’t recognized the stranger looking back at her from the mirror.

So many questions were forming in her mind now. She wanted to know what happened, why she ended up like that, but the words refused to leave her lips. After a few moments that seemed like an eternity, she decided she does not want to see the stranger in the mirror anymore.

But the stranger in the mirror refused to leave her consciousness; it haunted her every minute of the day.
